BOSTON (AP) - Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker is urging Congress to look for bipartisan solutions to health care.
Baker joined a group of Republican and Democratic governors testifying Thursday before the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.
The Republican governor noted that Massachusetts already has the highest percentage of insured residents in the country, at more than 96 percent, and is working to improve access.
He says Congress could take several steps, from helping stabilize the insurance market to encouraging younger people to get insured. Baker says he supports the so-called individual mandate, which requires most individuals to have insurance.
Baker says Congress could help drive down the cost of health insurance, particularly the cost of prescription drugs, by ensuring the availability of generic drugs and letting public payers negotiate prices.
