BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Burlington is asking residents to come up with designs for a new city flag.

Democratic Mayor Miro Weinberger says the new flag will be used at municipal buildings and city events. The Burlington Free Press reports (https://bfpne.ws/2gOCA2A ) only Burlington residents and business owners are eligible to compete, and designs must be submitted by Oct. 15 to Burlington City Arts.

The new flag will go on official display at the city’s New Year’s Eve event after a public vote.

The current flag was designed in 1990 by Cara Wick, then an eighth-grade student.
