ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - Authorities have cited a man who they say brought a loaded handgun to a Virginia airport in his carry-on bag.

The Transportation Security Administration said in a statement that an officer staffing a security checkpoint X-ray machine at the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport detected the handgun Wednesday.

Police confiscated the firearm and cited the man on a state weapons charge. He wasn’t immediately identified.

It’s at least the second such incident in Virginia in as many days. TSA said Wednesday that officers stopped a man with a loaded handgun at the Lynchburg Regional Airport on Tuesday.

TSA says travelers who bring firearms to the checkpoint are subject to civil penalties from TSA of up to $12,000 in addition to possible criminal charges.
