SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - An 8-year-old Northern California boy attacked with a hammer last week has died.
The Sacramento Bee reported (https://bit.ly/2xQi70E ) Thursday that the boy died six days after he and his mother and 7-year-old old sister were beaten by in a Sacramento home. Police said the three victims suffered major injuries.
Police arrested 23-year-old Deandre Chaney Jr. on Saturday on an Amtrak train passing through Winnemucca, Nevada, about 300 miles northeast of Sacramento. He escaped the train before he could be arrested, but was found hiding in a nearby shed.
Police said Chaney is the mother’s ex-boyfriend and is awaiting transfer to the Sacramento jail.
Police haven’t released the boy’s identity pending notification of family.
It’s unclear if he is represented by an attorney.
