PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Several hundred people marched through Providence on Labor Day to protest racism and promote workers’ rights.

The Providence Journal reports that more than 350 participated in the march to the State House on Monday afternoon.

Groups that organized the event include Jobs with Justice, Teamsters Local 251 and the Providence chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America.

Jobs with Justice executive director Michael Araujo tells WPRI-TV he wanted to see labor and community groups to come together. He says a similar march hasn’t been held in the city for several years.

City Council President Sabina Matos, General Treasurer Seth Magaziner and state representatives Marcia Raglin-Vassell and J. Aaron Regunberg addressed the crowd during the rally.
