COSTA MESA, Calif. (AP) - The Los Angeles Chargers re-signed backup quarterback Kellen Clemens on Monday.
The Chargers also claimed former USC linebacker Hayes Pullard off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Los Angeles put linebacker Denzel Perryman on the reserve/injured list and waived linebacker Nick Dzubnar to make room on the 53-man roster.
Clemens has been Philip Rivers’ backup for the past three seasons. He threw just 10 passes during that three-year stretch in relief of Rivers, who hasn’t missed a game in 11 consecutive seasons.
Clemens was waived by the Chargers last weekend during roster cutdowns. Los Angeles kept quarterback Cardale Jones, acquired early in training camp in a trade with Buffalo.
The 34-year-old Clemens spent five years with the New York Jets and three with the St. Louis Rams before joining the Chargers in 2014.
Pullard made 33 tackles in his first two NFL seasons in Jacksonville, where he played under Chargers defensive coordinator Gus Bradley. Pullard was born in Inglewood, California, where the Chargers will play in 2020.
The Chargers also signed three players to their practice squad.
Linebacker Joseph Jones signed after leading the Dallas Cowboys in tackles during the preseason. Los Angeles also re-signed receiver Geremy Davis and cornerback Craig Mager to the practice squad one day after waiving them from the active roster.
