ASHBURN — After the birth of his son, Kirk Cousins texted the Redskins’ coaching staff. The quarterback described the delivery as a ’top experience’ of his life, so far.
Cousins’ wife, Julie, gave birth late Friday to Cooper Cousins, a healthy baby of nine pounds, six ounces. Cousins returned to practice Saturday and was all smiles after the birth of his first child.
Cousins said he was grateful the delivery turned out well, crediting his wife.
“It’s been a great experience because Julie has been so positive all the way through it,” Cousins said. “She’s been so disciplined. It really has been a joy throughout the nine months. The actual delivery and labor was no different. She was a joy through it.”
The baby was 11 days past the expected due date, but Cousins said his son was “very content.”
“I guess that’s what happens when it’s 11 days past due,” Cousins joked.
The Redskins quarterback was a full participant in practice Saturday, getting in early and caught up to speed.
He missed Friday’s practice, though Cousins said he initially planned to go until doctors told him the baby could come within the next hour. While that didn’t end up happening, Cousins still used FaceTime to remotely sit in on a meeting.
“I thought practice was pretty productive today and got us going in the right direction,” Cousins said.
Cousins said his wife and son went home on Friday.
“[The birth] was just a little reminder that I married up,” he said. ” It was a life goal of mine to marry up and I did that. I think this whole process the last nine months have affirmed that.”
