Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie left Wednesday’s 4-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils early as a precaution after slamming into the boards.
Capitals coach Barry Trotz said Oshie skated a couple of shifts before they decided to rest him. He said he hadn’t talked to trainers yet about Oshie’s status, but didn’t sound worried.
“There’s no sense risking it,” Trotz said. “I haven’t heard that it’s anything serious. But he’s a big part in what we do.”
Oshie missed the final seven minutes and was evaluated by a trainer on the bench.
The 30-year-old winger signed an eight-year, $46 million deal in the summer after scoring a career-high 33 goals last season.
The Capitals have two remaining preseason games before starting the regular season on Oct. 5.
