BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) - A Nantucket man who pleaded guilty to raping four women on the island has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The Cape Cod Times reports (https://bit.ly/2xFa89B ) that 37-year-old David Matterson was also sentenced Tuesday to 10 years’ probation following his prison term.

Matterson previously pleaded guilty to multiple charges including home invasion and aggravated rape in the commission of a felony.

Prosecutors say in each instance Matterson broke into the women’s homes armed with a knife, bound them and sexually assaulted them. The assaults occurred over a seven-year period.

Police say DNA found at some of the crime scenes matched a soup container Matterson had thrown away at a restaurant.

Matterson was also ordered to reimburse the victims for mental health expenses incurred since the assaults.
