DALLAS (AP) - A federal agency charges in a lawsuit that CBS discriminated based on age when the Dallas-Fort Worth network affiliate declined to hire a traffic reporter in her 40s in favor of a less experienced one in her early 20s.
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said in a statement Tuesday that KTVT-TV violated a federal law prohibiting age discrimination by employers.
The commission says Tammy Campbell, formerly Tammy Dombeck, worked as a freelance reporter for the station beginning in 2013 and had previously worked at a rival station.
When there was a full-time opening in 2014, KTVT advertised for applicants with at least five years’ experience and knowledge of D-FW traffic.
The station hired a 24-year-old who had neither.
A station spokeswoman says KTVT disagrees with the EEOC’s findings and “looks forward to resolving this matter.”
