SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Salt Lake City police union leader is again criticizing the way city leaders have handled an investigation of two officers involved in a rough arrest of a nurse that earned widespread attention after the release of body-camera footage.
Salt Lake Police Association president Stephen Hartney accused city leaders Tuesday of prematurely releasing the body camera video and making prejudging statements about the events of July 26.
Nurse Alex Wubbels was handcuffed and dragged from a hospital after she explained she couldn’t allow a blood draw on an unconscious patient under hospital policy.
Detective Jeff Payne and the supervisor who backed him, Lt. James Tracy, were placed on leave amid internal and criminal investigations.
Salt Lake City spokesman Matthew Rojas defended the city’s decision to give the video to Wubbels and how they’ve handled the case.
