A few years ago NFL quarterback Tim Tebow “took a knee” in prayer on a football field and was criticized roundly by a loud element of society. Today, that same element sings the praises of NFL players who kneel in protest of perceived societal injustices.

The former action honors God and hurts no one. The latter disrespects the United States and harms all. As this insult to our nation spreads, filtering down to college, high school and youth football, it poisons minds, fosters discord, promotes divisiveness, anger and hate, and we suffer as a nation and as a society. We are damaged, perhaps irreparably.

These NFL protesters, many undereducated, misinformed or misguided, are terrible role models. Their contempt for American history and ideals insults our military and veterans whose sacrifices in defense of freedom cannot be measured. Such shameful behavior should not be tolerated, and we should not allow this challenge from within to go unanswered.
