He is a former U.S. president and public speaker. Bill Clinton is also a first-time novelist. His forthcoming thriller, “The President is Missing” will be published next June by Alfred A. Knopf and Little, Brown and Co. Mr. Clinton had a little help, however. The book has been co-written with best-selling mystery author James Patterson, the man behind the Alex Cross detective novels, among many other titles.
The new project is on a very fast track, however.
Showtime has already picked up the rights for the book and plans to turn the “one-of-a-kind” tale into a series — full of insider details “that only a President can know,” the network noted in advance publicity materials.
“Bringing ’The President is Missing’ to Showtime is a coup of the highest order,” said Davis Nevins, president and CEO of the cable network.
“The pairing of President Clinton with fiction’s most gripping storyteller promises a kinetic experience, one that the book world has salivated over for months and that now will dovetail perfectly into a politically relevant, character-based action series for our network,” Mr. Nevins said.
“I can’t wait to see Showtime bring the characters to life,” observed Mr. Clinton — whose wife Hilary Clinton is now on a national tour promoting “What Happened,” her most recent book recounting the 2016 election.
