WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Officials say 18 people were taken to hospitals as a precaution after a hazmat incident at a DuPont facility in Delaware.
Sr. Cpl. David McKinney, a spokesman for New Castle County paramedics, tells The News Journal multiple agencies were called to the facility around 11 a.m. Saturday.
DuPont spokesman Dan Turner says contractors doing remediation work in a lab discovered an unidentified “rust-colored material released from ductwork.”
Turner says the contractors, who were wearing “appropriate personal protective equipment,” evacuated the area. He says they were taken to hospitals as a “precautionary measure” and says many have already been released.
Turner says the scene has since been cleared and the site is operating under normal conditions.
