GOLETA, Calif. (AP) - Santa Barbara County authorities say a sheriff’s deputy equipped with the anti-opioid medication naloxone saved the life of a man in Goleta who was reported to be not breathing.
Deputies arrived at the scene early Thursday before fire and ambulance personnel and began evaluating the man’s condition.
They discovered the man was breathing but was unconscious and had symptoms of an overdose.
A department statement says a deputy administered one dose of the intranasal naloxone and within seconds the patient was conscious and breathing normally.
Santa Barbara County deputies were trained in use of the anti-overdose medication earlier this year.
