RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A consumer group is renewing its call that Dominion Energy permanently ditch its plans to build a pricey new nuclear reactor.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that the Virginia Citizens Consumer Council is asking state regulators to delete the possibility of building a new reactor from its long-term planning documents, known as an Integrated Resource Plan, saying the project will never be feasible.

Dominion has not committed to construct the new plant, known as North Anna 3, but has spent more than $600 million preparing for a potential build and received a federal operating license earlier this year. The company has said the zero-carbon project - pegged by one regulator at $25 billion - could one day be a good deal for customers but doesn’t currently makes economic sense.
