UTICA, N.Y. (AP) - Ground has been broken on a project aimed at providing housing for homeless veterans in central New York.
The $3.2 million Central New York Veterans Outreach Housing Project is underway in Utica. Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo says 17 housing units will be built mostly with state funds from the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance’s Homeless Housing and Assistance Program.
When finished, the project will provide seven permanent housing units and 10 transitional housing units located on the third and fourth floors of the Utica Center for Development’s Central New York Veterans Outreach Center.
Veterans living there will have access to such on-site support services as counseling, life skills, transportation, legal advice and mental health. The outreach center will serve veterans throughout Oneida, Madison, Herkimer and Otsego counties.
