MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Minnesota Timberwolves have added John Lucas III as a player development coach. The addition gives coach Tom Thibodeau another familiar face with a deep background as he tries to turn the Timberwolves into a playoff team.

Thibodeau coached Lucas in Chicago and then for part of last season with the Timberwolves before he was waived.

The Wolves also added Larry Greer as an advanced scout, Steve Molina as a video assistant and promoted Sam Newman-Beck to coaching assistant/video scouting director. Greer comes to Minnesota from Oklahoma City and Molina from the Detroit Pistons.

Newman-Beck is entering his eighth season with the Timberwolves. He was the head video coordinator for the past two seasons.

The Timberwolves open training camp on Saturday in San Diego.
