TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - The Latest on a train-pedestrian fatality in Tucson (all times local):
11:05 a.m.
A Union Pacific spokesman says a freight train’s crew applied the brakes but didn’t have time to stop before their train struck and killed a man in Tucson.
Railroad spokesman Jeff DeGraff says the man emerged from bushes and walked onto the tracks Thursday morning as the westbound 51-car train was passing through downtown Tucson.
The incident occurred near West Sixth Street and North Ninth Avenue.
Police say the train will be stationary and roads and intersections in the immediate will be closed several hours during the investigation and that motorists should avoid the area.

Authorities say a pedestrian is dead after being struck by a freight train in downtown Tucson.
The incident occurred Thursday morning on tracks near West Sixth Street and North Ninth Avenue.
Police say roads and several intersections in the immediate area will be closed several hours during the investigation.
Police advised motorists to avoid the area around the Union Pacific tracks.
