COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina bookkeeper has pleaded guilty to taking more than $120,000 from her employer.

U.S. Attorney Beth Drake said in a news release that 40-year-old Yvonne Sanchez of Chapin pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Columbia.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Winston Holliday Jr. said Sanchez was supposed to deposit checks made to her employer but opened a separate account and diverted some money to the account she controlled. Prosecutors say the theft occurred between 2014 and 2016.

Sanchez will be sentenced in January by U.S. District Judge Cameron McGowan Curry. Sanchez faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of $1 million.
