RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - A New York City man who admitted to distributing heroin has been sentenced to 11 years in prison.

The Burlington Free Press reports (https://bfpne.ws/2w9nSGu ) 32-year-old Corey Carter had previously pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute heroin.

Court documents say authorities had gotten a confession from Carter by telling him they’d consider releasing him and installing him as the region’s leading drug dealer for six months.

The defense unsuccessfully tried to have the confession thrown out, arguing that falsely promising freedom and support in a drug enterprise violated Carter’s rights.

Prosecutors also say two brothers were involved in Carter’s drug ring. Both have both pleaded guilty. One has been sentenced to time served; the other failed to appear in court.
