PAPILLION, Neb. (AP) - Sarpy County officials have approved an agreement with five cities to create a new wastewater agency.

The Sarpy County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday voted for the creation of the Sarpy County and Sarpy Cities Wastewater Agency with Bellevue, Gretna, La Vista, Papillion and Springfield. Four cities also have approved the agreement. Bellevue is set to vote on the agreement Monday.

The agency would oversee construction of a wastewater system to serve the southern portion of Sarpy County, where limited sanitary sewer service is available.

The agency would be governed by a six-member board made up of the chair of the Sarpy County board and mayors of the five cities. The agency’s budget would be approved each year by the Sarpy County board and the five city councils.
