EAGLEVILLE, Pa. (AP) - Teachers in a school district near Philadelphia are to be back in the classroom Friday after agreeing to end their three-day walkout with both sides entering arbitration.
The Methacton School District in Montgomery County and the Methacton Education Association said Wednesday evening that both sides have agreed to enter into nonbinding arbitration.
Teachers began walking a picket line Monday after the two sides failed to reach agreement the night before. The contract covering about 400 teachers expired at the end of June.
Union representatives said the school board wants teachers to pay a greater share of health care premiums and they couldn’t accept the proposal without a corresponding increase in salaries.
