COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - Two mock trial coaches at the University of Maryland have resigned after an email that was accidentally sent to students described potential Latino team members as “mediocre” and “pretty bad.”
The Washington Post reported Saturday that professor and coach Mark Graber unintentionally emailed the remarks Thursday. The bottom of the note included statements about Latino students from his daughter Abigail Graber. She is a lawyer who volunteers as an assistant coach.
In the email, Abigail Graber lamented the team’s lack of diversity. She wrote that the Latino students were not very qualified and that one was “mediocre.”
Mark Graber is a visiting professor at the school’s College Park campus. He took full responsibility in an email to The Washington Post. The newspaper was unsuccessful in reaching Abigail Graber for comment.
