ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) - After establishing their 53-man roster on Saturday for a few moments, the Buffalo Bills made more moves.
The Bills traded cornerback Kevon Seymour to the Carolina Panthers for kick return specialist Kaelin Clay and a seventh-round pick in 2019.
Seymour was the Bills’ sixth-round draft choice in 2016 and started three games as a rookie. He missed much of training camp with a foot injury and fell down the depth chart behind new acquisitions Shareece Wright, Leonard Johnson and E.J. Gaines at cornerback.
Clay played seven games for the Ravens last season, returning 23 punts and 14 kickoffs. He was initially drafted by Tampa Bay in the sixth round in 2015, but spent most of that season on Detroit’s practice squad.
Buffalo also reached an injury settlement with wide receiver Rod Streater and placed linebacker Sam Barrington on injured reserve among 30 roster moves Saturday.
Buffalo waived injured offensive tackle Michael Ola (ankle) and wide receiver Jeremy Butler (concussion), and reached an injury settlement with safety Shamiel Gray (undisclosed).
The Bills have been busy this offseason under new coach Sean McDermott and first-year general manager Brandon Beane. They are expected to continue to reshape the roster following Saturday’s round of releases.
Buffalo made several pre-emptive moves in trading wide receiver Sammy Watkins, cornerback Ronald Darby and linebacker Reggie Ragland over the past month, and releasing six players on Tuesday.
The Bills now have a 55-man roster, including offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson, who will miss the first five games of the season serving an NFL suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, and wide receiver Walter Powell, suspended four games for violating the NFL’s performance enhancers policy.
Streater was having a strong training camp before dislocating a toe in the Bills’ second preseason game. The sixth-year veteran signed with the Bills in May after playing last season with the 49ers, and the previous four with the Raiders.
Ola injured his left ankle during Buffalo’s final preseason game on Thursday night. He started the game at right tackle in place of Jordan Mills.
Quarterback T.J. Yates made the Bills after missing Thursday’s game while in concussion protocol. The Bills released quarterback Keith Wenning after signing him on Tuesday and giving him the majority of the snaps in the preseason finale.
Defensive end Eddie Yarbrough also made the roster. Yarbrough signed with the Broncos as an undrafted rookie in 2016 but was cut after training camp. He spent part of last season in the Canadian Football League.
The Bills released Jordan Mudge, the 28-year-old rookie offensive tackle who was the top offensive lineman in the Arena Football League. Mudge, who raises goats, pigs, chickens, and other animals on his farm in Arizona, is eligible to be re-signed to Buffalo’s practice squad.
