ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say a Circle K clerk shot and critically injured a man who was trying to rob the convenience store.

Albuquerque Police Department Officer Luis Hernandez says shortly after police were called Monday afternoon to an armed robbery at a Circle K, they were told the robbery suspect had been shot by the clerk.

Hernandez says the suspect was still breathing when he was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital. He says the suspect’s gun was still inside the store Monday evening.

Hernandez says investigators were still trying to determine if the suspect had fired the weapon. He says the suspect was shot in the torso. Hernandez did not name the suspect.

There was no word on the suspect’s condition late Monday.
