MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A Montgomery police officer is on leave following his arrest by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Montgomery Police Capt. Regina Duckett says Officer James Stewart faces charges of menacing linked to a Sunday morning incident at an apartment complex.

WSFA-TV reports the victim, according to an affidavit, told investigators Stewart blocked his vehicle with his truck and got out with a gun. The victim says Stewart tried to open the locked driver’s door, ripped off the car door handle, pointed the gun at him and ordered the victim out of the vehicle. According to the victim, Stewart also smashed the gun against a window and scratched it.

The victim says he then maneuvered his vehicle around Stewart’s and left.

Duckett says Stewart, a patrolman, joined the police department in 2008.
