OPINION:
President Donald Trump, in his first speech before the United Nations, sent a message that basically said you’re either with us — or you will be.
Awesome. He was predicted to give a bold message. And no bones about it: Trump delivered.
Look at his widely reported North Korea remark: “Rocket Man is on a suicide mission for himself,” he said, in reference to despot Kim Jong-un.
The left may gasp. But Trump’s likely thinking: Who cares? And so are most in America.
“It is an outrage that some nations would not only trade with such a nation, but would arm, supply and financially support a country that imperils the world,” he said, again in reference to North Korea.
Among his other choice remarks?
Much of the world is “going to hell.” America was committed to eradicating “radical Islamic terrorism” around the globe. North Korea better watch it, or America would “totally destroy it.” And the Iran nuclear deal is an “embarrassment” to the United States.
No wonder Benjamin Netanyahu was cheering.
“The Iranian government masks a corrupt dictatorship behind the false guise of a democracy,” Trump said.
Quite right.
“The Iran deal was one of the worst and most one-sided transactions … [an] embarrassment to the U.S. and I don’t think you’ve heard the last of it, believe me,” Trump continued.
But this was the real music-to-America’s-ears moment.
“As president of the United States,” he said, “I will always put America first, just like you, as leaders of your countries, will always and should always put your countries first.”
