New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio declared Sept. 19, 2017, as “Morning Joe Day” during a live appearance Tuesday on the MSNBC show’s 10th anniversary special.
Mr. De Blasio said he’s been a loyal viewer of “Morning Joe” ever since he flipped on the TV during the Iowa caucuses in January 2008 and witnessed something he’s never seen before on cable news: “An intelligent conversation that really gripped me.”
Speaking on behalf of “8.5 million New Yorkers,” Mr. De Blasio handed co-hosts Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski and Wille Geist a framed copy of the proclamation and read parts of it on air, heaping praise on “Morning Joe” for raising the country’s daily news and talk show landscape “to new heights of excellence.”
The mayor said Mr. Scarborough, Ms. Brzezinski and Mr. Geist “comprise a trio of intelligent, telegenic, outspoken and witty personalities and provide thought-provoking news coverage and in-depth interviews, making the show a must-watch morning jolt for the viewers in the five boroughs and across our great nation.”
“Therefore, I, Bill de Blasio, mayor of the city of New York, do hereby proclaim, Tuesday, September 19, 2017, in the city of New York as ’Morning Joe Day,’” he said.
