WATER VALLEY, Miss. (AP) - A north Mississippi auto parts maker is investing $20 million to increase production, with plans to hire 75 workers over two years.
It’s the fifth time in seven years that BorgWarner has expanded its Water Valley plant, which now has nearly 500 employees.
The Auburn Hills, Michigan, company says it’s again increasing output of transmission systems which allow engines to start and stop quickly, improving fuel economy.
The Mississippi Development Authority will provide $270,000 to help finance building improvements.
BorgWarner won’t say how much it’s paying workers, but MDA spokeswoman Tammy Craft says jobs qualify for incentives that rebate part of worker income taxes to the company. That program requires BorgWarner to pay at least $34,000 annually. BorgWarner could get $1 million in rebates on new jobs over 10 years.
