BOSTON (AP) - Republican Gov. Charlie Baker and Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito are hosting an end-of-the-summer picnic for their supporters.

The picnic starts at noon Saturday at SAC Park in Shrewsbury and runs through 3 p.m.

Baker calls the picnic “a family-friendly event where we can connect with our closest supporters.” Baker and Polito held a similar picnic last year.

Polito said the picnic was built on a legacy started by her mentor, former Republican Gov. Paul Cellucci, who died in 2013.

Baker said one goal of the picnic is to “thank our supporters who have been with us since the beginning” and to celebrate efforts to secure tax relief for families, reduce the size of the state’s bureaucracy and make critical investments in our local schools and communities.
