Teachers in Vermont city expect to strike next week too

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Striking teachers in Vermont’s largest city say they expect to be back on the picket line on Monday.

On Friday, Fran Brock, the president of the Burlington Education Association said she expected that the city’s 400 teachers will be out of work again on Monday as part of the strike that began on Thursday.

While classes were canceled for about 4,000 students, the district did make it possible for the high school’s varsity sports to play Friday and Saturday as originally scheduled.

Members of the Burlington Education Association went on strike Thursday. Teachers say the issue is scheduling time for teachers to prepare outside the classroom and to work one-on-one with students. The school board says teachers made new, unexpected demands at the last minute.
