AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - In a story Sept. 15 about a crash that killed two motorcyclists, The Associated Press, relying on information from state police, erroneously identified the motorcycle operator responsible for the chain-reaction crash. State police now say 25-year-old Aaron White-Sevigny, not 58-year-old Jamie Gross, veered into the passing land and collided with a pickup.
A corrected version of the story is below:
Police determine cause of fatal Toy Run motorcycle crash
Maine police determined the cause of a double fatal motorcycle crash that occurred during the United Bikers Toy Run on Sunday
AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine police have determined the cause of a double fatal motorcycle crash that happened during the United Bikers Toy Run last weekend.
The Kennebec Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2wgCeZx) the crash occurred on Interstate 95 in Augusta. Police say the chain reaction crash on Sunday started when 25-year-old Aaron White-Sevigny drifted into the passing lane and was struck by a pickup truck driven by 67-year-old William Nusom.
Nusom tried to avoid the motorcycle, struck the median guardrail and hit other motorcyclists participating in the Toy Run.
Fifty-eight-year-old Jamie Gross Gross died at the scene and White-Sevigny died at a hospital.
Nusom and his 99-year-old mother were treated at a hospital.
State police continue to investigate the crash.
