BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont officials say the state has improved its access to opiate addiction treatment, including eliminating the waiting list for treatment in Chittenden County, the state’s most populous country.
Republican Gov. Phil Scott and other officials said Thursday Vermont can now quickly meet the demand for treatment services in all 14 counties.
Officials attribute the increased capacity to the opening of a new program in St. Albans, expansion of services at the Howard Center, and additional access to physician practices at the University of Vermont Medical Center.
Scott said addressing the waiting list for treatment is “an outstanding milestone” but he says there’s more work to do. He says the state will continue to address the epidemic “like the public health crisis it is.”
