WATERVILLE, Maine (AP) - Maine police continue to search for the remains of a woman who disappeared four decades ago.
State police have searched for the remains of Pauline Rourke in more than a dozen wells throughout Kennebec and Somerset counties. Rourke disappeared in 1976.
The Morning Sentinel reports (https://bit.ly/2fnV3zx) police say Albert Cochran, Rourke’s live-in relative, told investigators Rourke’s remains were in a well in Smithfield before he died on June 27. Authorities say he did not admit killing her.
Cochran had previously served time for killing his wife and was charged but not convicted of killing their three children.
Lt. Jeffrey Love says police are hopeful they will receive information that will lead to closure.
