PHOENIX (AP) - Federal authorities say a man considered a major drug kingpin in New York City has been arrested in Arizona.

U.S. Marshals Service officials say 49-year-old Nigel Maloney was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon in Phoenix.

They say Maloney was wanted by New York police on suspicion of first-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.

Maloney and more than 30 other drug-dealing gang members have been charged in New York’s Kings County with selling and distributing dangerous drugs.

Authorities say Maloney allegedly played an important role in a drug ring that sold fentanyl, heroin and cocaine in Brooklyn and around the country including Arizona.

Maloney is being held at a Maricopa County jail while awaiting extradition to New York.
