TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - University of Arizona say they are going to do early flu vaccine promotions after nearly 100 cases of flu-like illness were reported since students returned to school.

University officials say the flu has come early to campus this year. At least 37 of the reported cases were confirmed as flu. Flu cases are not typically seen until late October to November.

According to the university’s Campus Health Center’s Medical Director Michael Stilson, students started coming in for flu-like symptoms before classes started. He says many of the first students were from sororities, but the illness’ exact origin is unknown.

Center officials say flu reports have decreased since the big August wave. The university is recommending their students and staff get the flu shots to prevent the illness.
