OPINION:
Real psychiatrists are probably squirming in their office chairs at this — but 27 of their professional colleagues have come together to write a book about President Donald Trump.
Surprise, surprise, they find: Trump’s an “antisocial” idiot with “malignant narcissism,” and he’s going down — big time. And this is such a surprise because Trump, as these quacks and witch doctor analysts acknowledge, isn’t even their patient.
They came to this conclusion, penned in their “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump: 27 Psychiatrists and Mental Health Experts Assess a President,” due out in October, long distance. Without talking to Trump. Absent, really, any sort of medical evidence at all, save their own pedigree degreed minds.
Harvard’s Lance Dodes, one of the 27 who joined to write this book, said in an interview with Salon that “the evidence suggesting that Donald Trump may have serious mental health problems is overwhelming.”
And by “overwhelming,” he means: Me and my 26 Boyyyz say so.
His full analysis? Basically this: When you look up “antisocial personality” in the psychiatrist dictionary, Trump’s face appears.
“It is people who lie and cheat,” he said, Raw Story noted. “Everybody lies some of the time, but in this instance we mean people who lie as a way of being in the world, to manage relationships and also to manage your feelings about yourself. People who cheat and steal from others. People who lack empathy … the lack of empathy is a critical aspect of it. People who are narcissistic.”
It’s that last — the part about empathy — that’s most interesting. Why? Because it was Barack Obama who wore that label well, doing things like announcing the ISIS beheading of American journalist James Foley and then traipsing off to the golf course for a quick 18. Now that’s a man with an empathy problem.
Dodes didn’t mention it.
But he did bring up Trump’s “delusion” and sociopathy — something, once again, he derives from his Watching From Afar mental treatment plan.
“It is not just bad behavior that people have to lie and cheat the way he does,” he said. “It is an incapacity to treat other people as full human beings. That is why his focus is on humiliating others to aggrandize himself, as he did in the Republican primaries when he was debating and calling people names.”
Oh, you mean like Hillary Clinton calling out every Trump supporter in America as a part of the whole “basket of deplorables?”
Once again: Dodes didn’t mention it.
But he does go on to say that Trump is doomed to fall.
Trump, once he faces a “Reichstag fire” moment that turns Republicans against him once and for all, will either be impeached or “will resign and say, ’I am still the best and the only savior, and these evil people and their evil media have forced me out,’ ” Dodes said.
Wow. Who knew psychiatry was so powerful that its practitioners could actually prophesy?
But let’s chalk this whole interview — this whole book and line of so-called mental and behavioral analysis — in a word: Quack.
Psychiatrists who sell the idea they can psychoanalyze someone from afar are little more than witch doctors — and, in this case, witch doctors with a political agenda.
