OPINION:
A video from the Middle East Media Research Institute shows an Egyptian television news anchor, on the eve of September 11, bluntly mocking and scolding Americans.
Muhammad Gamal Hilal called those who remembered the Islamic terror attacks “American wailers,” Christian Broadcasting Network reported.
Unbelievable — even for the Muslim apologist and Islamic crowd.
“In a few days,” he said, Mediaite noted, “we will be marking the anniversary of 9/11. As you know, you will be hearing the American wailers and the media going on about the ’war on terror,’ the ’21st century,’ and ’such and such years after this and that,’ and ’16 years after’ … They will be talking about terrorism and the war against it and what happened in the world and what the U.S. has done in order to eliminate terror.”
Wait, there’s more.
“The world is moving at a fast pace,” he went on, “with one even following another in the war against the so-called ’terrorism,’ by which they mean ’Islam,’ because they consider Islam to be tantamount to terrorism. This is what they want, and this is what they strive for.”
Nice talk from a mouthpiece for a country that’s benefited handsomely from American handouts.
In 2016, America gave Egypt $13 billion in aid. And between 1948 and 2016, America gave the country a total of $77.4 billion in aid, according to Congressional Research Service figures cited by Mediaite.
This isn’t the only time in recent days a member of Egypt’s press took a long-distance potshot at America.
Ahmen Mansour, a well-known Egyptian television journalist, just recently posted on Facebook a message of God’s divine punishment on America, via the recent hurricanes. The post, since deleted, was largely seen as gloating in tone.
“The great escape from Florida,” he wrote, Step Feed noted, before the post was deleted. “20 million Americans flee in fear of Hurricane Irma that is crushing everything. ’And He will show you His signs, and what signs of Allah will you deny?’”
US News just reported a Senate panel voted to slash $300 million in military aid to Egypt, “amid growing congressional frustration with the country’s dismal human rights record under President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.”
Good. Mansour quotes Islamic texts; here’s one from the Christian Bible, from Matthew 7:5, and it reads: “You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”
Or, if that’s not clear enough, here’s a secular thought: Dear Egypt, stop biting the U.S. hand that feeds.
