WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A fire in Wilmington has claimed the life of one person and left another in critical condition. The News Journal in Wilmington, Delaware, reported Tuesday that the blaze on 37th Street started around 11:30 p.m. Monday.

Firefighters encountered heavy flames at the front door when they arrived. Crews made their way inside and rescued a man. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

A woman was able to escape the burning building. But she was admitted to a hospital in critical condition. A third person suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The fire was placed under control in an hour.
