INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Longtime Indianapolis television news anchor Howard Caldwell has died at age 92.

Shirley Brothers Mortuaries says Caldwell died Monday. WRTV reports Caldwell joined the station in 1959 and was a reporter and anchor until he retired in 1994.

Caldwell was inducted into the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame in 1991. He also authored books on legendary Butler basketball coach Tony Hinkle and on the history of Indianapolis theaters.

He grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from Butler University after serving in the Navy during World War II.

His funeral is scheduled for Friday at Castleton United Methodist Church.
