LOS ANGELES (AP) - A flash flood watch has been issued for mountain and desert areas surrounding Los Angeles as a slow-moving thunderstorm is expected to linger over the region.

Meteorologist David Sweet of the National Weather Service in Oxnard, California, says the watch takes effect at noon Sunday and stretches until night.

Sweet says the storms could drop as much as an inch of rain per hour in places.

He says a concern is mountainous areas recently affected by wildfires that could see mud and debris flows.

Sweet says areas covered by the watch include the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys outside Los Angeles.
