PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The funeral for an Army specialist killed during a training exercise in Colorado has been set for Saturday in Rhode Island.
Twenty-year-old Spc. Matthew Turcotte, of North Smithfield, was killed Aug. 23 during an exercise using live ammunition at Colorado’s Fort Carson.
The funeral mass will take place at Providence’s Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul at 10 a.m. Turcotte will then be buried with military honors at Inman Family Cemetery in Burrillville.
The governor has ordered flags lowered to half-staff until sunrise the day he is interred.
Turcotte joined the Army in August 2015. He was assigned to the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, part of the 4th Infantry Division based at Fort Carson.
