OPINION:
I want to thank Vice President Pence for walking out on the NFL and their overpaid traitors. I’m also grateful for President Donald Trump and his game-changing leadership of America-first values, processes, improvements and benefits. It was the Soros-Clinton-Democratic-National-Committee operatives who approached the NFL Players’ Union in the first place — and ultimately Colin Kaepernick and his copy-cat resistors — are solely responsible for this mess.
As I’ve argued in the mighty Washington Times before, it’s time for American institutions, branches, media and visionaries to embrace rugby as our national sport. I played rugby, the greatest game in the history of the world, for 16 years, and served USA Rugby for more than 20 years.
The game came to America via the international Ivy Leagues and elite military academies. The United States even won rugby gold in the 1924 Olympics. Today there are 4,500 rugby clubs in the country. Players are mostly overachieving ex-pats, scholars, financiers and especially military and special-forces operators.
National team players are woefully underpaid, yet many of the USA Rugby Eagles players shed tears as they stand arm-in-arm singing the Star-Spangled Banner at the top of their lungs. Rugby players train for years for the remote chance of getting to wear the USA jersey.
Perhaps the most elegantly violent sport in the world, at the final whistle rugby players shake hands, put on tie and blazer and go have a proper supper together. This honor and respect is something the NFL could never figure out.
I would like to invite Vice President Pence, President Trump, their families, and all passionate American companies and civilians to spend their weekends watching more rugby in America. Republicans and military recruiters, take note.
