HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) - The union representing Maryland correctional officers is warning that staffing levels in state prisons are at dangerously low levels.

The Herald-Mail in Hagerstown reports (https://bit.ly/2ybMOkv ) that the Maryland chapter of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) held a press conference Saturday to call for more hiring.

They directed their remarks to Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan.

State officials say they have hired 120 officers in the last 18 months to try to fill vacancies in the system.
