PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (AP) - Another shopping mall in Maine is in financial trouble.

Mortgage lender Wells Fargo is putting the Aroostook Centre Mall in Presque Isle up for auction later this month after the owner failed to repay a loan.

The mall opened a year before the Loring Air Force Base closed in 1994. Within six years, the county had lost 15 percent of its population, resulting in the mall’s sale in 1991.

The mall isn’t the only one that’s struggling. The Bangor Mall is at risk of default on an $80 million loan, and the owner is trying to restructure the loan.
