President Trump on Friday played up his cryptic comments about the U.S. military enjoying a “calm before the storm,” saying that America will soon find out what he was talking about.

“You’ll find out,” Mr. Trump said with a wink when reporters asked him about it at an Oval Office event.

Speculation has run amok since Mr. Trump at a meeting with Pentagon top brass said the get-together was “the calm before the storm.”

Later, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was repeatedly asked about the “storm” comment at the daily press briefing.

She said Mr. Trump was sending a serious message. She declined to say who or what the president was talking about.

“We are never going to say in advance what the president is going to do,” Mrs. Sanders said. “As the president said, you’ll have to wait and see.”

The president takes his job of protecting Americans very seriously, she said.

“We’ve got a lot of bad actors in the world. There are a lot of examples there,” Mrs. Sanders said.
