EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say they are investigating general threats made against sporting events at Michigan State University.

The East Lansing and university police departments issued a joint statement Friday saying they have received letters making the threats. It says the letters don’t provide specific information about any events or the manner of the threat.

It urges the public and members of the campus community “to remain vigilant of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately.”

East Lansing police Lt. Chad Connelly says federal agencies are involved in the investigation.

In a separate statement, the university said it is taking “all appropriate safety measures.” In the event of an emergency, campus police will use the MSU Alert system to notify students, staff and faculty.
