CHANTILLY, Va. (AP) - A former park employee in Virginia who was accused of fatally stabbing a caterer during a dispute at a wedding has been found not guilty.
The Washington Post reports a jury returned the verdict for 20-year-old Kempton A. Bonds on Wednesday. The former Fairfax County parks employee had an earlier trial that ended in a mistrial after the jury failed to return a verdict.
In 2016, Bonds was overseeing the wedding and later got into an argument with 35-year-old Tyonne Johns over chairs. The argument ended with Bonds stabbing Johns with a three-inch pocket knife.
Bonds testified that Johns was attacking him and that he feared for his life. Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Brandon Shapiro argued that Bonds’ use of force was out of proportion with the threat.
