SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) - One of China’s top dockless bike systems will expand into a Maryland city following a recent launch in Washington, D.C.
The Washington Post reports Mobike is expanding its network of bikes into downtown Silver Spring sometime this month.
Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett said Tuesday at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the city’s first protected bike lane that the enhanced access to shared bikes along with the bike lane can help reduce traffic collisions and protect the environment.
Instead of heading to a kiosk, dockless customers use an app to locate the nearest available bike, scan a code on the bike to unlock the wheels and start their trip.
Mobike has over 7 million bikes in 180 cities, and entered the U.S. market with its expansion into the district last month.
